We are deeply saddened to share the loss of Bobby Wayne Smith, 77, of Childersburg, Alabama. He passed away on September 3, 2026. Born on April 2, 1949, in Sylacauga, AL to Virgil Smith and Gladys Carter (Davis), Bobby will be remembered with deep respect and lasting gratitude by all who knew and loved him.
Bobby was a 1967 graduate of Childersburg High School, a milestone that marked the beginning of a life rooted in faith, family, and steadfast commitment to the people and places that mattered most to him.
On June 23, 1967, he married Diann Heaton—Bobby’s first love—and together they shared 60 years of marriage. Their devotion to one another stood as a quiet, enduring example, and theirs was truly a love story for the ages. Above all, Bobby loved his family unconditionally, and that unwavering love was felt in the everyday moments and in the lifelong bonds he helped nurture.
A devoted member of Sylacauga First Assembly of God, Bobby served in various leadership roles, offering his time and guidance with a sense of duty and sincere care for his church family.
Bobby also found joy in the simple pleasures that brought people together—especially Alabama Football and the friendship of his golfing buddies, whose companionship added laughter and camaraderie to his days.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Diann; his son, Bobby Smith (Donna); his daughter, Janet Strickland (Vincent); his grandchildren, Rachelle (Chitty), Austin (Clarissa), McKenna, Conner, Abigail, and Owen; his great-grandchild, Jackson; his niece, Pamela Jacobs; his brother, Larry Smith (Nancy); and his sisters, Gail Carpenter and Carolyn Whitten (Ken). He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Virgil Smith (Dollice Smith); his mother and step-father, Gladys Carter (Bill Carter); and his brother in law, Lee Carpenter.
Bobby's immediate family will hold a private service at a later date.
