My father and I had many great days on the flats with Capt. Cal. That started back in 1967.

James and family, I just learned today of Cal's passing, and I have spent the past hour alone, looking at old pictures of him, both yours and many of mine, while quietly remembering my old friend of almost 40 years with a mixture of admiration for him as a good man, fisherman and guide, wonderful memories of our many days spent together in the Keys, smiles at his great sense of humor, and a few tears at the sad realization that I will not see him again in this world.  I was blessed to have known him and learned from him, as of course you were but far more so.

Cal Cochran introduced me to fly fishing long ago. He really gave me a lifetime of outdoors happiness. Thank you.

To the Cochran family. May Cal and Betty rest in peace! Just learned of Cal's passing! Cal was so special as a friend and my fishing guide and buddy for many years in the Keys. The memories, the conversations, and fly fishing on the flats, plus Homosassa tarpon runs will always be in my thoughts! May God bless!

To James and Family, I am sorry to learn of your dad's passing so late.  He was my saltwater idol.  The guy who taught me the basics on the flats.  I only wish I could have spent more time with him.  Cal, rest in peace.  I'll miss you.

A true Keys legend. Spent many wonderful days on the flats with my uncle and Cal fishing for Tarpon  He always had a smile and a good joke, and he always knew where the fish were. I will always cherish those memories.

Cal, Jr. and family: I had many a fine day fishing with Cal and my Dad. Our family is honored to have my Dad included in the photo tribute to Cal,Sr. I have a great memory of talking of old fishing stories with your Dad some months ago. Our prayers are with your family. Rest with the knowledge that Cal brought joy to so many people.

Cal fished 4 generations of our family. He became family. Marathon will not be the same. May he now have only fair winds and following seas - the smoothest sailing! Our very best personal regards to his family.
