August 7, 1954 – October 22, 2026
Charles Ray Mooney, lovingly known to so many as "Paw," age 72, of Weogufka, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on October 22, 2026.
Born on August 7, 1954, in Sylacauga, Alabama, to the late Jimmy Mooney and Etheline Hardy Mooney, Ray grew up to be a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He spent the majority of his adult life working hard at Madix until health issues led to his retirement a few years ago. Above all else, Ray was a God-fearing man with a servant's heart. He faithfully served for many years as a loyal Deacon at Weogufka Family Worship Center and deeply loved his church family.
To know Ray was to feel loved. He truly never met a stranger and had a gift for listening without judgment. His hugs were legendary—capable of making even the worst day immediately brighter. Though a humble man, Ray always gave far more than he had and felt abundantly blessed in doing so. When his health allowed, he loved nothing more than casting a line while fishing or spending quality time surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In his final years, Ray made his home with his brother, Gary Mooney, and his niece, Dana Flores, where he was dearly loved and thoroughly spoiled. He treasured the simple joys of those days: sharing morning coffee and heartfelt talks with Dana, and heading out on weekend adventures with Gary and Dana to discover new restaurants, take in the scenery, and enjoy good conversation along the ride.
Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beth Finch Mooney; his parents, Jimmy and Etheline Mooney; his daughter, Stephanie Pitts; and his brother, Terry Mooney.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Mike Finch and Wade McClellan; his daughters, Wendy Finch and Autumn Bevels; his brother, Gary Mooney; and his sister, Sherry Mooney. He is also survived by his devoted niece, Dana Flores, along with several other nieces and nephews whom he adored, including Tina Mooney and Mooney Terry .
His legacy of love continues through his 13 Grandchildren: Jeremiah, Abigail, and Jasmine, Shai, Emily (Adam), Candace (Johnathon), Haley (Stephen), Evan (Bre), Haley (Michael), Cody (Meagan), Christopher (Ashley), Chanisty, and Chaz.
His great-grandchildren: Lillianna, Owen, Nevaeh, Spencer, Kylan, Lilly, Harper, Maddie, Chloe, Landon, Sophia, Brandon, Ryleigh, Wrenlee, Marleigh, Christopher Jr., Sage, Elizabeth, Aubrey, Dawson, Emma, Kolby and one on the way; and a host of extended family, his beloved church family, and dear friends.
A service celebrating Ray’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at Weogufka Family Worship Center in Weogufka, Alabama, with Pastor Tommy Thornton officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with the service beginning at 5:00 PM. His ashes will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Beth, at a later date.
He was deeply loved by all who knew him, and his warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit will be truly missed.
