

Mr Charles Rudolph "Buster" Owens of Atlanta, Georgia died Sunday July 5, 2026. Mr Owens was affectionately called Buster by his family and school friends. On the day of his birth, the attending nurse picked him up and looked at him and proclaimed "what a buster" and his parents decided the name was fitting. After being hired on his first job in the marketing department with BP Oil Company in Atlanta, Mr Owens introduced himself as Buster. His department head advised him that Buster wasn't a professional name and suggested he go by Charlie.
A native of Sylacauga, Alabama, Mr Owens graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Economics. He served in the United States Air Force Reserves before moving to Atlanta. His Air Force duties included postal operations and he often joked that his career shouldn't involve picking up anything heavier than a 5 cent letter. Mr Owens was a past President of the Atlanta Auburn Alumni Club and a lifetime member Auburn University National Alumni Association. He was a member of Tigers Unlimited, which supports Auburn Athletics and Auburn football, he was an Auburn football season ticket holder for 48 years. He loved the Auburn Tigers!!
Mr Owens worked in the Purchasing Department of the Atlanta Journal and the Atlanta Constitution in the 1970's. Being an avid newspaper reader, he enjoyed being at the center of breaking news. He later started his own company in marketing and sales within the packaging industry.
He enjoyed the outdoors and loved gardening and working in his yard, planting seasonal flowers and shrubs. He was a member of Peachtree Road Presbyterian Church and was active in church activities.
Mr Owens was preceded in death by his father, Collie Rudolph Owens; mother, Clara Audrey Johnston Owens; sister, Lenora Owens; brother, Donald Franklin Owens and wife Janice Tucker Owens; brother in law, Brown Motes. Survivors are his sisters, Peggy Owens Blanchard and Deborah Owens Motes. He also leaves behind many loved nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside services will be help July 8,2026 at 10:30 time at Evergreen Cemetery Sylacauga, Alabama. Arrangements by Curtis and Son Funeral home in Sylacauga, Alabama will handle burial arrangements.
