Chipper was my neighbor.  His house was the heart of the neighborhood and we all hung out there. There was always something fun  going on and Chipper was the center of attention.   He was a legend to us younger kids. Fay, Doug, and Lynn all felt like family.  What a great place to grow up!  

My memory is very long and I have a ton. Chip was my Uncle my moms baby brother.  When I was young our family was so close and gathered whenever we could. Uncle Chipper was always the life of the gathering. We lived in Louisiana and my granny sent Chip to pick me up one time and I remember sitting on the edge of the backseat of the car and leaning in between the two front seats and talking nonstop the entire 6hrs of the trip.. I could tell he was done about the second hour in. I remember him saying "Heather you think you can sit back and just not talk for like five minutes?" Well that lasted about five seconds. He just chuckled and said "I'll be damned that didnt last long" and he continued to chew on his cigar lol  When I visited for the summers he would take me to get breakfast at McDonald's while he picked up more OJ  at the store.  I never imagined that I would lose my mom in March and the Uncle Chip the following February.  Heaven is filling up, there is more of our family there than here. We will reunion again one day. I'll talk your ear off again when that sweet day comes. Love ya Uncle Chip!

Oh, where do I start....

      I guess my fondest memory of daddy is me and him at Camp Helen, racing sailboats against Pa Doug and Heather (Gary Ann’s daughter). I was maybe 6, and what I can remember most is daddy hollering “push us off scooter, push , push”! So I pushed, he guided the sails, and we won! Pa Doug was mad as hell, but daddy didn’t care. They jabbed at each other for weeks. Anyway, we both got big trophies and I think daddy was more proud of his than I of mine!  I could go on and on about good and funny memories  I have of daddy. But no need. Everyone he was around felt his infectious laugh and heard what could come from his witty brain and even smarter mouth. He met just a very few strangers in his life, and after 10 minutes with daddy, they were strangers no more. I hope God knows I wasn’t ready to say goodbye. We had many more memories to make, I thought. But seeing as his Father thought it time to take him home, I can only be so grateful for the 42 years I shared with him as my dad. You will always be on my mind and forever in my heart . Rest easy big guy!

So many memories of Chipper , he always made me laugh. He will be sorely missed. Maybe he’s up there playing golf with Bbo. My prayers go out to his family 

If you look up Happy Go Lucky in the dictionary, Chipper’s picture would be beside it. Chipper “Fish” Powell was truly iconic personality in our area. If you didn’t know Chipper you missed a treat. RIP
