Mr. Elvin R. (Sonny) Landers was born August 28, 1928 and went to his Heavenly Father April 15, 2018. Services for Sonny will be 2:00 PM April 17 at Curtis and Son North Chapel with Bro. Clarence Denny officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:30 until 2 at the funeral home.
Sonny was born and raised in Childersburg and was retired from Kimberly Clark. He was an active member of Cornerstone Church of Christ. At the age of 22, he was drafted into the Army and valiantly fought in the Korean War. Sonny was wounded in action at the battle of Pork Chop Hill for which he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was a proud member of the Purple Heart chapter in Birmingham.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julia Hobbs Landers and Louis Landers; siblings, John J. Landers and Geneva Landers Ridley; wives, Betty Pomeroy Landers and Sophie Johnson Landers; step-daughter, Linda Tubbs. He is survived by his wife, Lena Tubbs Landers, step-children, Delora Collier (Norman), Diann Garner (Gary), Jimmy Tubbs (Kathy), Johnny Tubbs (Karen), Debi Tubbs, Donna Bridges (Royce) and Dennis Johnson (Paula) as well as many grandchildren and a host of friends. Pallbearers will be Johnny Tubbs, Josh Tubbs, David Cassidy, Bobby Clardy, Kenny Clardy and Norman Collier.
