

Virginia Temple Hassett, age 91, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016 at her home in Sylacauga. Born on October 29, 1924, to Frank and Hannah Temple, she was the youngest daughter of nine children. Virginia married her husband, Roy, in July 1942. Mrs. Hassett worked over 30 years with the Sylacauga Utilities Board before retiring as Office Manager and Treasurer of the Board. She was a longtime member of the Business & Professional Women's club and was passionate about working with the Girls Ranch in Camp Hill, AL. As an active member and Elder in the First Presbyterian Church, she was the recipient of the Presbyterian Women's Honorary Life Membership in 2001. She led a life full of generosity and love, and her family will always be thankful for the gift that was her life. Mrs. Hassett is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Clara Thomas, Muriel Brooks, Mary Rayfield and Frances Cravey; brothers William F. Temple, Carey Temple and Robert Temple; and loving husband of 71 years, Roy E. Hassett. She is survived by her brother, Dr. James Temple; daughter, Jane White (Larry); grandchildren, Daphne Hudson, Wendy Cleveland (David) and Jamey White (Raylan); great-grandchildren, Marley Hudson, Luke Hudson and Max Cleveland. Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Family will receive visitors one hour prior at Curtis & Son Funeral Home. Rev. Hugh Kelso will officiate and pallbearers will be David Cleveland, Mike Cleveland, Jim Temple, R. Allen Brewer and her two great-grandsons. The family would like to offer special thanks to her longtime caregivers Diane Dark, Gloria Hughes, Brenda McElrath and the nurses of Coosa Valley Hospice. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
