Gladys is survived by her children, Gayle Wilbourn, Betty Frost Morgan, and Pat Benefield (Charles), along with 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 30 great great grandchildren, 12 great great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews; Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Akers, her grandson, Barry King, and 10 siblings.
Ms. Akers was also known as "The Fish Lady" for many years in the surrounding Talladega Co. area. Besides fishing many knew her for her quilting abilities, estimating more that 150 quilts made, some of which have been scattered throughout the country.
Visitation will be held at Radney-Smith Funeral Home, 320 North Elm Avenue, Sylacauga, Alabama 35150, on April 23, 2026, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service in the Chapel at Radney-Smith Funeral Home, 320 North Elm Avenue, Sylacauga, Alabama 35150, on April 23, 2026, at 1:00 pm with Rev. Max Buttram officiating.
Pallbearers will be Brent Caldwell, Dustin Sumners, Devin Morgan, Taylor Hall, Jesus Martinez, and Les Cunard.
Final resting place will be Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, 1501 Talladega Highway, Sylacauga.
