Funeral service for Horten D.C. Adcox, age 85 will be at 11 am on Monday, February 13, 2023 at Curtis & Son Funeral Home North Chapel, with Joel Neighbors officiating. A military burial service will be held after the funeral at Hillview Memorial Park in Alexander City, Alabama.
Mr. Adcox passed away surrounded by family at his residence on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, D.C. and Mary Emma Adcox, his sisters Madeline Vinson, Joan Adcox and his grandson Colten Wilson.
Mr. Adcox, fondly known by most as “Buddy”, served in the US Army for 20 years and then worked with the Alabama Forestry Commission for 15 years. He had a zest for life and a great business mind. He enjoyed buying and selling antiques, art, tractors, cars, clocks, and land throughout the years. Buddy also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on his farm – planting trees, raising crops, goats, horses, rabbits, many chickens and the occasional pig. Buddy was a man of his word, courageous, disciplined, funny and practical. He hated waste, had an impeccable work ethic and was an independent thinker. He was a spiritual man and had a strong relationship with God. Buddy was also an amazing husband, beloved father and grandfather. He lived simply and happily with his wife of over 60 years with whom he raised a wonderful family and loved them all deeply and unconditionally.
He is survived by his wife, Gayle Adcox, three daughters, Angela Wilson, Alane Barnes (Matthew), Amy Hyche (David); six grandchildren, Ryan, Erika, Michael, Horten, Abigayle and Natalie; a great-grandchild, Eli and sister, Joy Watts.
He is cherished and will be greatly missed by friends and family.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 12, 2023 from 2 pm until 4 pm at Curtis & Son Funeral Home North Chapel.
Buddy’s family feels extremely fortunate and would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the support of so many, friends, family and caregivers over the past many months.
