Jim is survived by his partner of 26 years, Grace Janis; his son, Michael James Kirby; his bonus children, Tracy Janis, Tom Janis (Gabi), Tim Janis (Christina), Sandra Janis Hill (Shannon), Christina Janis Maness (Chad), and David Phillips; he is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Waye B. Kirby and Bernice Hipps Kirby, and six siblings.
Jim served in the United States Army. He sang in the West Douglasville Coral Society for 25 years and he worked for ACC Wholesale Company in Atlanta for 30 years. He retired in the year 2000.
There will be a memorial services held in Sylacauga, Alabama and in Brooksville, Florida that will be announced by the family at a later date.
