Jim was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on December 10, 1952. He graduated from Berry High School in Hoover, Alabama in 1971. While attending bible college in Birmingham shortly after high school, Jim met his wonderful wife, Sarah and they married June 29, 1974. After a year in Birmingham, Jim and Sarah moved to south Florida where she was from to begin their life together. While in Florida, Jim began working as a painter and built their first house. In 1980, Jim and Sarah returned to Alabama and bought property in Sylacauga where he built their current home where they would reside for the next 44 years together, making wonderful memories with family and friends.
Jim was a devoted and loving father to the 5 children that they raised together. Jim continued working as a master carpenter and contractor building and remodeling homes, and he went to great lengths to make certain that every client of his received a quality product. Some of his hobbies include fishing, biking, camping, watching sports, listening to bluegrass, playing guitar, and coaching softball. Other than building homes, he also built a wooden dory boat.
He was a devoted member of Knollwood Presbyterian church for 43 years. At Knollwood he served as an elder, taught Sunday school, was chairman of the mission committee, went on mission trips, took care of the church building upkeep, and lead the men’s Bible study at his home for many years.
Despite health struggles in his later years, he particularly enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, keeping chickens, and traveling with Sarah to Alaska to visit his daughter, Rose. Jim was a man who was deeply devoted to praying for others and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Sarah is especially grateful for his medical care team whose support and care allowed Jim to remain in the comfort of his own home.
