She was a 1958 graduate of Boone High School, Orlando, Florida; a 1962 graduate of Florida State University and member of Delta Delta Delta sorority; a 1995 Master's Degree graduate from Auburn University.
Using her education for the positive development of youth, she served as a counselor at King's Ranch, Birmingham, and the Shelby County School system, Alabama.
Miss Janet, as the students loved to call her, is survived by her devoted husband, David E. Murphree, three children, ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
