

Jerry DykesSylacauga, AL - Funeral service for Jerry Dykes, 74, will be Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Sylacauga with Dr. Rick Patrick and Dr. Timothy George officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga, AL.Mr. Dykes died Sunday, July 3, 2016 at Coosa Valley Medical Center. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after serving in Vietnam War. After his military service he taught school at Jefferson Davis Junior College in Brewton, AL. He moved to Sylacauga in 1971 and began his ministry at the First Baptist Church in Sylacauga working with the youth and music; he eventually served in many capacities with the church including administration and various choirs. He led mission trips with different choirs of the church. He was a founding member of the Alabama Singing Men. He loved music and serving his Lord.He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dinah Dykes of Sylacauga; daughter, Kimberly McMillan husband Mark of Crawfordville, FL; son, David Dykes wife Susan of Fultondale, AL; brother, Bill Dykes wife Carol of Sylacauga; brother-in-law, Richard Cartwright wife Patty of Titus, AL; sister-in-law, Janet Aylor husband Danny of Murchison, TX; niece, Ruth Lynn Aylor of Murchison, TX; two nephews, Chris Dykes of Billings, MT and Aaron Dykes of Sheridan, MT; 2 grandchildren, Emily McMillan and Benjamin McMillian; and many beloved cousins. Visitation will be Tuesday July 5, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.The family will accept flowers or contributions to the First Baptist Church of Sylacauga.Pallbearers will be Steve West, Dick Bagwell, Glenn Winter, Mark McMillon, Bruce Brooks and Henry Nunnelly.
