Funeral services for Mr. Joe Dean Hassell, age 48 of Sylacauga, will be Friday, November 9, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Curtis and Son North Chapel with Rev. David Vick officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 8 at the funeral home from 5-7 PM. Mr. Hassell is survived by his wife, Dana Hassell of Sylacauga; Son, Ryan Hassell of Sylacauga; Step-Son, Jonah; Step-Daughter, Natelee; Sister Jill Hassell Wootten and husband Bill of Hoover; Nieces, Kelly Russell Wootten and Cody Wootten Chase; Loving Aunt and Uncle, Myra and Bob Hassell; Host of other aunts, uncles, and cousins. Pallbearers will be Sylacauga Fire Fighters, Andy Shoemaker and Alan Pate. As a retired member of the Army National Guard, Mr. Hassell was awarded many honors including; Combat Action Badge, Expert Medical Badge, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement with 2 oak leaf clusters, Armed Forces Reserve Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with bronze M device, numeral 2, and bronze hourglass device, Good Conduct Medal with 3 knot device, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, Iraqi Service Ribbon, Operation Desert Storm Ribbon with bronze star, Alabama Faithful Service Ribbon. Mr. Hassell was Sylacauga Firefighter of the Year in 2006, American Legion Firefighter of the Year in 2009, and American Legion State Firefighter of the Year in 2009. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Educational Fund for Joseph Ryan Hassell, Joe’s son, donations can be made at any Cadence bank.
