

A graveside funeral service for Joyce Ann Silar Carlton, 92, will be held on Monday at Socopatoy Cemetery at 2:30 pm with Rev. Pete McElrath officiating. A visitation will be held an hour prior at Socopatoy Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Carlton died April 7, 2026 at UAB Medical Center.
Mrs. Carlton was native of Anniston, AL. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Gomez Silar of Anniston, AL. She is preceded in death by her brothers Samuel and James Silar, her husband Benjamin Carlton, and daughter Celeste Carlton Smith (James Smith).
Mrs. Carlton is survived by her granddaughter, Anna Marie Smith of Kailua Kona, HI and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Carlton was a lifelong Presbyterian and a long time member of First Presbyterian of Sylacauga, AL. She was blessed with the gift of a green thumb and cared for many of God’s furry creatures. She served her community throughout her life as a substitute teacher, Garden Club member, Wednesdays’s Kid volunteer, organizer of Doll Parties, and an Honorary Life Member of Presbyterian Women.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to The Presbyterian Home for Children in Talladega, AL or The Florence Project of Phoenix, AZ.
Curtis and Sons Funeral Home in Sylacauga will be directing.
