Leonard Perry (L.P.) Hickman, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2019 at the age of 92. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 26, 2019 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church of Sylacauga with Rev. Byron White officiating. A graveside is to follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church starting at 1:00 PM.
Mr. Hickman is survived by his two daughters, Suzanne Hickman Phillips (Paul); Sheilah Hickman Davis (Tommy); sister, Dorothy (Dot) Ezekiel Hosmer; three treasured grandchildren, Thomas Jackson Davis IV, Mattie Conn Phillips and Mitchell Perry Davis. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Edna Conn Hickman; parents, Ira Champion Hickman and Lela Mitchell Hickman and his sister, Jettie Hickman Bryan.
L.P. retired from Kimberly Clark after 36 years of service. He joined the Navy in high school during WWII and was aboard the aircraft carrier USS Puget Sound before returning home to finish high school and to marry the love of his life. During high school, L.P. also was an all-star athlete and excelled in various sports, including being named the All-State Quarterback senior year. Mr. Hickman’s love for sports continued as he went onto coach little league for 25 years. He was an avid Alabama football and Braves baseball fan. He was a wonderful golfer and enjoyed playing every chance he got. Mr. Hickman also loved to read and frequented the B.B. Comer Library to check out books. L.P. loved his community and was very proud of where he was from. The family would like to thank his caregivers for their outpouring of love and dedication.
