Lois Cathrine Rhodes, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on October 25, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 23, 1941, in Talladega County, Alabama, Lois was the cherished daughter of William Edwin Hamilton and Annie Mae Cleckley Horton.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband Billy Jo Rhodes, her son Roy Neil Rhodes, daughter Marcia Kay Vincent, granddaughter Kristen Lashaye Camacho, and many beloved siblings. Her legacy of love and strength is carried on by her surviving children: Shelia Jo Creel and her husband Scott, and Sherry Lynn Carroll and her husband Rodney. Her life was further enriched by her grandchildren—Jonathan "Bubba" Carroll (April), Kira Williams, Jennifer Chance(Heath), Jeremy Rhodes, Samantha "SammyJo" Cobern (Mikee), Joe Carroll (Gina), Daniel Williams (Morgan), Skila Williams, and Cory Farmer—along with 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Her family also includes her brother Edward Hamilton (Janice) and sister Opal Maddox, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lois was a dedicated seamstress at the Sylacauga Garment Factory, where she contributed her talents and forged lasting friendships. Beyond her professional life, she found joy in sewing, gardening, cooking, fishing, telling jokes, playing the guitar, and singing. Her family fondly remembers the beautiful clothing she lovingly crafted for her grandchildren and the warmth of her kitchen, always filled with laughter and love.
A woman of remarkable intelligence, particularly in mathematics, Lois's greatest love was for Jesus and her family. Her home was a sanctuary of faith, humor, and unconditional love, where her children and grandchildren were always her top priority.
A service to honor and celebrate Lois's life will be held on October 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Curtis and Son Funeral Home, located at 1315 Old Talladega Hwy. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived and a love well-shared.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Lois's memory to the Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement Inc. (SAFE), an organization close to her heart.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Gentiva Hospice of Montgomery and the compassionate care team, including RN Meghan Elders, CNA Sherita White, Chaplain Alecia Chalker, social worker Kaydra Haywood, RN Heaven Lungsford, and RN Tasha Shells.
