Mary Ellen Hurr (Regan) passed peacefully in her sleep on Nov. 21, 2025, after an extended illness. Mary Ellen was born on Jan. 1939 in Williamsport, PA, to John and Helen Regan. She was the first baby born that year in Pennsylvania and was very proud of that fact, even receiving commemorative gifts to document the event.
Mary Ellen grew up in Jersey Shore, PA and graduated from Jersey Shore High School where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Larry Hurr, who preceded her in death in 2017.
Mary Ellen and Larry lived in; State College, PA, Quebec, Canada and Madison, WI before moving back to Jersey Shore to raise their family that now included daughters Lorrie, Julie, and son Greg on the family farm owned by Larry's parents, Bud and Martha Hurr.
In 1983 their family moved to High Point, NC to be near family after the family farm was sold and Mary Ellen took a position at Guilford County Community College for several years before moving to Florida with Larry to help care for their elderly parents. Later, Mary Ellen and Larry retired to Sylacauga, AL to be near their daughter, Julie Sanders (Hurr).
During her retirement Mary Ellen enjoyed pursuing her love of painting and sewing, creating many paintings and quilts for friends and family over the years.
Mary Ellen is survived by; her brother, Terrence “Terry” Regan of Annapolis, MD, daughter Lorrie and husband JD Winker of Greensboro, NC , son Greg Hurr and wife Aida of Lexington, KY and daughter Julie and husband Allen Sanders of Sylacauga, AL. Mary Ellen also leaves behind two Grandsons, Tyler and Casey and two Great Grandchildren, Max and Willow.
