Columbia, KY. - Medie Jo Machen, age 90, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023. Medie was born in Sylacauga, Alabama.
Medie is survived by her children, Byron Machen, MD (Carol), Ronald Tamar Machen (Jaye), Janice Leigh Machen Coffey, DVM; grandchildren, John Machen (Kristen), Rachel Machen Williams (Chris), Sarah Machen O'Reilly (Heath), Bethany Nichole Coffey Bowie (John), Haley Bobbitt, Harper Anne Machen; and great- grandchildren, Gramercy Grace Williams, Charles Elgin Williams, Campbell Anne Williams and Everette Grant O'Reilly.
Medie was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Earl Machen; and her parents, William Russell Wallis and Evie Dean Guy Wallis.
Medie was known for her annual Doll Party during Christmas at her beloved “Doll House”. Seventeen years of sharing her home and love of dolls endeared her to the community.
She was active at the Senior Center and spent much time there quilting and interacting with other seniors in spite of her hearing loss.
She came to be lovingly referred to as “Techno-Granny” as she embraced texting and email communication after her husband passed away.
She participated in Alabama State Fair many years with award winning quilts. She was active in her church, First United Methodist Church in Sylacauga.
A true homemaker, Medie was a loving mother and very supportive of her children and was a devoted wife. She was the most positive person you could meet, she always encourage everyone to see the good in most any situation. Her glass was always "half full". She taught us to strive for perfection but be happy with our best efforts which to her defined excellence.
A visitation for Medie will be held Friday, December 15, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home, 320 North Elm Avenue, Sylacauga, Alabama 35150, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel.
Medie will be laid to rest in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, 1501 Talladega Highway, Sylacauga, AL 35150.
