Richard Stanley Hosey, a devoted and hard-working man, left us on January 22, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on September 12, 1956, Ric moved many places but returned home and was a longtime resident of Sylacauga, Alabama.
Ric is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Shewanda Hosey. He was a proud father to Jayson Hosey, Amber Wray (Jacob), and Moranda Colwell. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Trae Hosey, Sean Hosey, Aurora Wray, Nicolas Wray, Arabella Wray, Ezekiel Wray, Benjamin Wray, Jeremiah Wray, Mylee Colwell, and Brantlee Hosey. Richard was predeceased by his parents, James Olen and Rhudine Hosey, his brothers Johnny Hosey and Kirby Hosey, his grandmother Mary Ruth "Maw Maw" Barnett, and his grandson Malachi Wray. He is also survived by his siblings, LaQuetta Hosey Lightsey, Kim Hosey Bearden, Denetta Hosey Shierling, and Danny Hosey.
Ric's career was marked by dedication, having worked for Brasfield & Gorrie for 22 years and retiring from Blue Bell Creameries after another 22 years in maintenance. He was a member of the Shelvin Rock Baptist Church in Fayetteville and was known for his love of music, playing the guitar, and writing and singing his original songs. He was also an avid fan of Alabama football, enjoyed fishing and golf, and loved watching westerns and the Andy Griffith Show.
Ric had a unique gift of gab and was known to be so brilliant that he likely could "sell a bathing suit to an Eskimo." He dearly loved his grandbabies and taught all of his kids to drive and to fish. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and community.
Radney-Smith Funeral Home is honored to serve and assist the family. In celebration of his life, a Memorial Service will be held at Shelvin Rock Baptist Church, 1560 Shelvin Rock Rd, Sylacauga, AL 35151, on January 31, 2026, at 11:00 am. All who knew Richard are invited to bring finger foods and musical instruments to sing, play their guitars, eat, and share memories.
Later that day, a Bonfire and Celebration of Life Send-off will take place at the family home, 1731 New County Line Road, Sylacauga, AL 35151, at 6:00 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair and a beverage to join the family in celebrating Richard's life.
Ric will forever be in our hearts, as he truly loved everybody. In his own words, " 'cause I am as free as a bird now."
