Funeral services were held for Richard B. Logan on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, with Rev. Anthony Dykes and Rev. Larry Morrison officiating. Mr. Logan died on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga, AL. He passed away at the age of 91 after a short illness. His wife of 65 years, Ellen E. Logan, was by his side. Mr. Logan was born June 2, 1929 in Sycamore, Alabama and graduated in 1947 from Sylacauga High School. He went on to join the army two or so years after graduation and served three years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. After having served time for his country, he traveled to the western United States landing in Las Vegas, Nevada and it was there that he met his wife, Ellen, in 1954. They both worked and retired from the United States Postal Service with Richard having a total of 35 years service. After retirement, he and his wife moved back to Sycamore, AL to help take care of his elderly mother. He spent the next thirty three years of his retirement living in the very home that he grew up in. Mr. Logan enjoyed gardening and working on his miniature model of Sycamore’s Mill Village that was featured in the Daily Home. In his later years, he enjoyed reading both fiction and non-fiction. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Oletha Logan and two brothers, Hugh and Charlton. He is survived by his wife, Ellen E. Logan, his step daughter, Nora (Gene) Woodard of Decatur, Alabama and two step grandchildren, Mark (Kathy) Woodard and Gena (Michael) Cretcher. Pallbearers were: Marshall McGrady, Jeff McGrady, Danny Culp, Jeff Kissic, James Kelley and Jimmy Medley. Ellen wishes to thank the following people for the love, car and kindness shown to her and Richard during the last several weeks: Tammy and Jeff Kissic and family, Nikki Harris and Sheila Curtis of State Farm Insurance, Marshall and Norma McGrady and family, the second floor nurses at Coosa Valley Medical Center and Coosa Valley Hospice for the care and compassion shown at the time of his death. Donations may be made in his memory to: Sycamore Community Action Committee @ P.O. Box 423, Sycamore, AL 35149. He was buried at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Sylacauga, Alabama. I didn't know this until now. He sure will be missed .He always waved when I went by.Ellen and family.I know y'all will really miss him. He was a good and hard worker in y'alls yard .
