Thomas "Larry" Green, age 85, of Sylacauga, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
Larry is survived by his nieces, Jane Ricks (Billy), Lois Barnett, Doris Ricks (Roger), Barbara Coleman (Charlie), Brenda Williamson, Nancy Dobbs (Larry), Virginia Francis (Tommy); and nephews, Harold Harris, Tommy Edmondson (Brenda), Wayne Green and Mark Green (Rebecca).
Larry was preceded in death by his, father Martin V. Green and mother, Mattie Ingram Green; brothers, Mac Green, Bennett Green, Gene Green, Eldon Green; and sisters, Elizabeth Edmondson, Violet Harris and Grace Green.
Larry was initiated into the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 312 in Birmingham, Alabama, on September 5, 1958, marking the beginning of a remarkable 67-year journey of service. Throughout his IUOE career, he held numerous officer positions and was ultimately elected Vice President of Local 312, where he led with fairness, loyalty, and strength. He retired on July 1, 2002, after decades of mentoring apprentices, fighting for working families, and helping build a union family that continues to thrive today. His IUOE Local 312 brothers and sisters proudly honor and respect his many years of loyal membership and leadership.
Beyond his work in the building trades, Larry was deeply engaged in the Coosa Valley Masonic Lodge and cherished the fellowship of his Masonic brethren. He was a faithful friend and was always the first to lend a helping hand. Known for his strong work ethic, quick wit and love of storytelling, Larry also enjoyed fishing and was an avid collector.
A visitation for Larry will be held Monday, October 6, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home, 320 North Elm Avenue, Sylacauga, Alabama 35150. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Fayetteville Methodist Church, 5441 Old Fayetteville Rd., Sylacauga, Alabama 35151 with Bro. James Long officiating.
Larry will be laid to rest in Fayetteville Cemetery, 5441 Old Fayetteville Rd, Sylacauga, AL 35151.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Brandon Bishop, Gary Blair, Roger Blair, Charles Coleman, Harold Harris and Members of the Masonic Lodge and the IUOE local 3112.
