

Walter T. Hudgins, 91 of Sylacauga, died Saturday, April 3rd at Coosa Valley Medical Center after a brief illness. Private services were held Tuesday, April 6th at Curtis and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Thornton of Weogufka Family Worship Center, officiating. Mr. Hudgins had been a member of First Baptist Church, Sylacauga since 1958. He was a veteran of WWII in the 985th field artillery and sent to Italy in 1944 as a mess sergeant. He was born near Childersburg, Alabama. As a young man, he moved to Lake Charles, La where he learned the bakery business, eventually opening a bakery business in Sylacauga and one in Lanett, Alabama. He also owned and operated Sylacauga Chrysler Plymouth Company Inc. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Fannie Mae Hudgins, Children; Cheryl Alverson of Sylacauga and Tommy and Rhonda Hudgins, all of Sylacauga, and Amy and David Ratcliff of Chattanooga, Tn. Great Grandchildren; Bethany Marks, John Bowden and Rebecca Bowden of Sylacauga, Thomas Hudgins IV and Elle Hudgins of Sylacauga, Liz Alverson and Michelle Alverson of Sylacauga and Conner Ratcliff of Chattanooga, Tn. Sister and brother-in-law, John Frey of Alpine. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and oh, he was loved by his family. Pallbearers were Tommy Hudgins, Tom Hudgins, Thomas Hudgins IV, Phillip Alverson, John Bowden, Phillip Frey and Terry Frey.
