Cassie Elise Hagan Strickland

Sylvania – Mrs. Elise Hagan Strickland, age 99, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2016, at Optim Medical Center – Screven in Sylvania. She was born May 24, 1916, in Sylvania to the late Charles Edward and Lottie Pfeiffer Hagan. She graduated from Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College and State University) in Milledgeville, GA in the mid- 1930’s and began her teaching career in Girard, Burke County, GA. From there she taught in the classroom and was a “Visiting Teacher” in Hiltonia, Douglas, Madison County, Franklin County and Hart County, GA. After her marriage to Max Kutz Strickland of Royston, GA in 1946, she lived in Royston until moving back to Sylvania in 1987. She was the oldest surviving member of the First Baptist Church of Sylvania where she was a member of the Philathea Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her Parents, her Husband, her Granddaughter, Kristan S. Smoak, her Sister, Helen Hagan, her Brothers, Carl E. Hagan, J. Hermann Hagan and her twin, G. Elliott Hagan.

She is survived by her Son and Daughter-In-Law, James Max and Kay Griner Strickland of Sylvania, her Great-Grandsons, Kameron Max Smoak and Tanner Kaiden Smoak of Sylvania, her Sister, Emma Hagan Irwin of Atlanta, several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Funeral services for Mrs. Strickland will be held on Monday, January 11, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Sylvania with Dr. Charlie Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery. The visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be: Dr. C. Edward Hagan, G. Elliott Hagan, Jr., Dr. James F. Strickland, Jr., Douglas Strickland, Lawrence Yancey and Rupert Aaron.
