Earl Hoyt DeVane
April 25, 1923 – May 17, 2018
Sylvania (formerly of Macon, GA)–Earl Hoyt DeVane, age 95, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Syl-View Health Center in Sylvania. He was born in Randolph County, GA to the late Ernest & Ruby Rogers DeVane, worked as an investment counselor and was a member of Riverside Methodist Church in Macon, GA. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran, having served during WWII, participating in the Battle of Okinawa and landings on Iheya Shima, a small island needed as a radar facility to detect kamikazes. He was a 2nd Lieutenant, serving from Dec. 1942 to Dec. 1946 after he completed basic training at Emory University & serving in the 2nd Pioneer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, specializing as a Shore Party Officer assigned to establish beach support areas. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Wife: Karleen Douglas DeVane.
Survivors: Daughters and Sons-In-Law: Pamela DeVane & Jerry Callison of Sylvania and Patricia DeVane & Leon Burns of Forsythe, GA. Grandchildren: Amy Callison (Mike) Dixon, Jennifer Callison (Timothy (Fraley), Brian Burns, Kelly Burns and April (Josh) Ellerbee; 13 Great-Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews.
A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Rome, GA
