Elizabeth C. Carey Johnson

Rocky Ford –Elizabeth Carey Johnson, age 89, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2011 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. She was the wife of the late Charles Stephen Johnson, Jr. of Rocky Ford, GA. She was a native of Franklin County, Royston, GA, daughter of the late Simeon Otto and Addie Parham Carey. Elizabeth was a graduate of Royston High School, Reinhardt College in Waleska, GA and attended Georgia Southern in Statesboro.

She was a teacher in Public School of Franklin County for five years, a dental hygienist for forty-five years, associated with the late Dr. Wesley A. Carr in Royston and Augusta, the late Dr. John L. Jackson of Statesboro, the late Dr. R. T. Tebeau of Sylvania and Drs. Al Rowton and Chip Bray in Statesboro. Elizabeth was a member of the Georgia and American Dental Hygienist Assn and received the coveted dental clinic trophy in 1953 & 1954 in Atlanta. She represented Georgia as a clinician at the National Dental Convention in San Francisco, CA in 1955.

She was a member of Rocky Ford United Methodist Church , United Methodist Womens Society, teacher of Adult Sunday School Class and past teacher of Rocky Ford Church. She was also preceded in death by her Sisters: Exie Lee Cromer and Elise Neal Williams; Brothers: Junious Carey, William Carey, Burke Carey and Jim Carey.

She is survived by her Son, Edmund Roger Johnson and Daughter-In-Law, Patsy Johnson of Asheville, NC. Granddaughter, Stephanie and husband, Gary Graham, Jr. of Chattanooga, TN, and Granddaughter Sandy and husband, Jeff Previdi of Sandy Hook, CT. Three Great-Grandsons, Ches Graham, Cole Graham and Walker Previdi, and One Great-Granddaughter, Caroline Previdi. Several Nieces and Nephews in Royston, GA.

Visitation: Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Thompson-Strickland-Waters Chapel.

Funeral Services: Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Rocky Ford United Methodist Church with Rev. Ben Strickland, Dr. Al Rowton and Rev. Dr. Karen Zeigler officiating. She will lie in state at the church from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Burial at Scarboro Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Jerry Carey, Brent Carey, Nelson Carey, Jay Williams, Pete Miller and David Miller.
