Mr. Jackie L. Thames, 57, of Sylvania, died Thursday, November 24, 2011, in the Ogechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility in Statesboro following a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Burke County, Georgia, the son of the late William Benjamin, Jr. and Joanne Sikes Thames, he had worked for the Georgia Welcome Center, Sylvania for a number of years before retiring after approximately 10 years as a heating and air conditioning technician with Georgia Southern University. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved his grandchildren very much. He was also a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include, His Wife, Cynthia Skinner Thames of Sylvania, A Daughter and Son-in-Law, Beth T. and Russ Scott of Sylvania, A Son and Daughter-in-Law, Jackie L., Jr. (Jay) and Erin Thames of Sylvania, Sisters, Debra Koziol and Carolyn and James Gordy of Sardis, GA and Kathy Thames of Waynesboro, GA, Grandchildren, Madison Scott, Gatlin Scott and Bailee Thames all of Sylvania, Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Thames will be held Sunday, November 27, 2011, at 2:00 P.M. at the Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Mann and the Rev. Ralph Dixon officiating. Burial will be in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Ray Lariscy, Randy Bashlor, Smokey Thames, Charles Thames, Carl Thames and Glenn Thames.
Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home and the family will be at the residence.
