Kristan Elise Strickland Smoak

Sylvania, Georgia – Kristan Elise Strickland Smoak, age 33, died on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at University Hospital in Augusta following a two-year battle with cancer.

She was born May 1, 1981 to James Max & Kay Griner Strickland of Sylvania. She was the secretary of the Sylvania First United Methodist Church for the past six years. She was a faithful member of McDonald Baptist Church where she was active in many of the church activities including the Women's Missionary Union and the church choir. She graduated with the Class of 1999 of Screven County High School and was crowned Miss Screven County Livestock Festival Queen in the spring of 1999. She attended Ogeechee Technical College and enjoyed being with her family----especially her two boys.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Max Kutz Strickland and her maternal grandparents, Louis H. & Bernice Waters Griner.

Survivors include, her husband, Anthony Wayne (Tony) Smoak, her two sons, Kameron Max Smoak and Tanner Kaiden Smoak, step-son, Micheal Smoak, her parents, her paternal grandmother, Elise Hagan Strickland, aunts and uncles, Rupert L. & Sarah Waters Aaron and W. Ronnie and Shirley Burke Waters, a special "sister." Allyson Aaron Thomas, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne & Mary Ann Smoak, sister-in-Law, Tonya S. David and a nephew, Chris David all of Sylvania. Several cousins and a special "papa", Talmadge J. Hall of Royston, GA.

Visitation will be Monday evening, February 2, 2015, beginning at 6:00 PM at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home of Sylvania.

Funeral services for Kristan will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the McDonald Baptist Church, 787 McDonald Road, Sylvania, GA with the Rev. Dr. Karen R. Zeigler, Dr. Jack Gatlin and the Rev. C. Mike Benson officiating. Burial will be in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery, 820 West Ogeechee Street, Sylvania, GA 30467

Active pallbearers will be, Larry Aaron, Chris Waters, Darrick Waters, William Thomas, Lawrence Yancey, Jeremy Forehand and Troy Waters. Honorary pallbearers will be the congregation of McDonald Baptist Church.
