Sylvania - Margarett Ceil Crockett Thompson, 95, who spent most of her life as a Sylvania & Screven County resident, departed this life on June 30, 2017 at the Syl-view Nursing Home, surrounded by family and friends. She was born on September 30, 1921, to the late Belle Outland Crockett and Benjamin Elliott Crockett in Ft. Valley, GA. The family moved to Statesboro and then to Sylvania where Margarett grew up and attended school. In 1941, Margarett married her true love, Alexander A. “Alex” Thompson.
She was a caregiver, always the one to step forward to take care of a friend or relative. After the death of her mother in 1972, Margarett entered training and became a nurse, after which she worked at the local hospital, and later joined the staff of Dr. James Freeman. She continued on the staff of Dr. Marian Lane after Dr. Freeman’s retirement, ultimately serving some 25 years in nursing before her retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Margaret Thompson McClain, three brothers, Ben E. Crockett, Jr., William F. Crockett, and Paul T. Crockett.
She is survived by children Robert E. Thompson (Margaret Royal) of Lawrenceville, Alexander A. Thompson, Jr. (Susan Tebeau) of St. Simons Island, grandchildren, Kelly Thompson Boos (Keith) of Slidell, LA, Julie Thompson Moore (Tim) of Jacksonville, FL, Chris Thompson (Sharon) of Slidell, LA, Alexander A. “Trey” Thompson, III of Newington, Tyler M. Thompson of Savannah, Cameron O. Thompson of Savannah, Douglas A. McClain, Autumn McClain Postell (Jason) , and Michelle McClain Garcia (Johnny), all of Berne, TX. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Blake, Brittni, and Bailey Thompson, Brianna Thompson Wiebelt (Tre), Amelia Margarett McClain, Faith, Caleb, Bella & Jayden Postell, Jonathan & Elora Garcia, Margaret “Maggie” & Michael Moore, Zachary and Jeremy Boos, Lindsay Boos Rinaudo (Cody), and great-great grandchild Oliver Rinaudo.
Celebration of Life services will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at 2:30 pm at the chapel of Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home in Sylvania, with Father Lou Lussier officiating. The family will receive friends at 1:00 which is ninety minutes prior to the 2:30 service at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at the St. Joseph Catholic Church cemetery at Bay Branch.
Pallbearers will be Alex “Trey” Thompson III, Ty Thompson, Chris Thompson, Blake Thompson, Tim Moore and Michael Moore.
Honorary pallbearers will be nephews James Thompson III, Paul Thompson Jr, Ed Thompson, and Gary Wammock, Harold Royal and David Garber.
The family would like to extend gratitude for the care and attention given to Mrs. Thompson by the staff of Syl-view Nursing Home.
Family requests remembrances to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church.
