Sylvania - Mrs. Marie Dickey Peavy, age 95, passed away Friday, September 21, 2018, at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice and her loving family. She was born in Screven County, Georgia to the late Minis Albert and Annie Broxton Dickey. She was a member of the Union Baptist Church and attended Red Bluff Baptist Church until her health failed. The homemaker enjoyed sewing and gardening, growing vegetables and beautiful flowers. She loved to cook and can and was very family oriented. She especially enjoyed doing crafts, working with dolls and loved puzzles and music. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, John Clinton Peavy, Jr., a son, Albert Clinton Peavy, her siblings and their spouses, Vivian and Jessie Jenkins, Anna Bell and Frank Ruark, Wynonia and Billy Friese, James and Gladys Dickey, and Bennie and Judy Dickey, and a brother-in-law, Clifford Lee.
Surviving Mrs. Peavy are: Daughters, Linda P. Lee and Marie Elaine Parrish, Sons and Daughters-in-Law: John Albert and Julia Peavy, William and Betty Peavy, Wendell and Martha Peavy, Calvin and Marilyn Peavy and a Special Adopted Sister, Myrtle Jenkins all of Sylvania. 9 Grandchildren, 19 Great-Grandchildren, 3 Great-Great-Grandchildren, a host of Nieces and Nephews, and many adopted Grand and Great-Grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Mrs. Peavy will be held Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Mann and the Rev. Danny Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in the Double Heads Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be: Joey Jenkins, Colby Jenkins, Ethan Jenkins, Dalton Jenkins, Jackson Rigdon and Daniel Peavy. Members of Red Bluff Baptist Church, Ed Thompson and Dr. John Odom will be honorary pallbearers.
The family requests that memorials be given to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105-9959.
