Keysville (formerly of Sylvania) – Thomas Hillis, age 88, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at University Hospital in Augusta, GA. He was born in Sylvania, GA to the late Jinks T. Hillis and Madge Joyner Hillis Whitener and was of Protestant faith. He was a Merchant Marine for 20 years, serving aboard 10 different Merchant Marine ships during World War II, visiting many ports throughout the world. He also worked for General Motors United Auto Workers of Atlanta for 20 years.
Survivors: Numerous cousins within 3 hours of Sylvania including: Betty Jo Sheley of Jacksonville, FL, Kitty Newton of Sylvania, Sue Weaver of Sylvania, Bobby Smith of Sylvania, Ramona Mobley of Girard, GA, Constance Parker of Sardis, GA, Roy Chandler of Girard, GA and Melba Jean Jeffers of Sylvania.
Graveside Service: Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Bethel Brick United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Kitty Newton officiating. Burial following in church cemetery.
