William Gaines "Billy" Smoak Jr.

Mr. William Gaines (Billy) Smoak, 55, of Sylvania, passed away Saturday night, August 4, 2018, at Augusta University Medical Center in Augusta, GA.

He was born October 26, 1962, in Brunswick, Georgia to William Gaines Smoak, Sr. and Willa Nell Deen Smoak. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and NASCAR racing and loved being with his family during his life time. He was of the Holiness faith. He worked for 14 years with Great Dane Company in Savannah and was a welder/longshoreman with ILA Local 2046 at the Port of Savannah.

He was preceded in death by his mother, an infant brother, David Smoak, his grandmother, Mattie Smoak and an aunt, Pam Smoak Ellison.

Surviving Mr. Smoak are, his wife, Deanna Winters Smoak of Hepzibah, GA, father and step-mother, William Gaines, Sr. and Debbie Davis Smoak of Sylvania, 3 sons, William Gaines (Billy Bob) Smoak, III, and Lewis Adam Smoak and Cristan Bell all of Newington, Georgia, and Christon Caleb Smoak of Bloomingdale, Georgia, 1 sister and brother-in-law, Donna S. and Thomas Oliver of Sylvania, and a brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Amanda Smoak of Hiltonia, a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Smoak will be held 4:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at the Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Branson and Rev. Dr. Karen R. Zeigler officiating. Burial will be in the Faith Temple Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be: Donny Skinner, Tony Smoak, Tim McIlrath, Alex Mock, Dusty Burton, Mikey Johnson, Barry Smoak, and Jonathan Mays.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Roy Reiner, Rocky Austin, Robin Harley, Rex Austin, Nathan Beaupre, Woody Calhoun, Bobby McIlrath, Ray McIlrath, David Mock, Jack Mock, and Mike Johnson, Sr.

Visitation will be held Monday evening, August 6, 2018, from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
