

Sylvania – Winifred Evans High, age 94, passed away on June 28, 2014 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, GA. She was born and reared in Screven County and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She graduated from Sylvania High School and Georgia Women’s College and was a homemaker. As an avid caretaker of her yard, she grew beautiful roses that graced the homes of friends and her church in lovely arrangements. She was a member of Sylvania First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Philathea Sunday School Class and Wednesday Morning Birthday Class. She was preceded in death by her Husband: Asa DeCarr High; her Parents: James Hezekiah & Helen Skinner Evans; and her Daughter: Charlotte Ann High. Other members of her family that have gone on to be with the Lord are her Sisters: Lura E. Avret, Elizabeth Jamerson and Irma Spearman; her Brothers: James Evans, Ralph Evans, John Evans and Linton “Bo” Evans.
She is survived by her son: Dr. James A. (Jimmy & Pat) High of Statesboro, GA; her Grandsons: J & Elizabeth High of Arlington, VA (Great-Grandchildren: Ainsley, James and Elise) and Andy & Francesca High of Davidson, NC (Great-Grandchildren: Thearon, Quinlan and Aaralyn).
Visitation: Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 1:15 PM until 2:00 PM at Sylvania First Baptist Church.
Funeral Services: Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Sylvania First Baptist Church with Dr. Charlie Cooper officiating. Burial at Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Thomas Avret, Don Jamerson, Todd Roddenberry, Richard Montgomery, Jay Brinson and Bob McBride. Honorary Pallbearers: Members of the Philathea Sunday School Class and the Wednesday Morning Birthday Club.
