Alma M. Erichsen

Erichsen, Alma M. died peacefully on November 5, 2025, at the age of 89. Devoted wife of the late Fritz and married for 61 wonderful years. Mother of Ingrid Swilling, Maren (Robert) Browne, Heidi (James) Rochford, and the late Fred (Susan) Erichsen. She was the beloved Oma (grandmother) to 10 grandchildren (Kevin, David, Jason, Greta, Annika, Brian, John, Patrick, Thomas and Elizabeth). Alma was predeceased by two brothers (Alfred and Adolf).

After arriving from Basbeck, Germany, Alma married Fritz and settled in Laurel Hollow where she and Fritz raised their family. More than anything she loved being a mom and grandmother.

Throughout her fulfilling life, Alma continuously put her family first. She was happiest when spending time with her husband and children (and then grandchildren) as they played games and splashed around the backyard pool. She particularly enjoyed family card and board games including those imported from her native Germany (“Schwarzer Peter” and “Mensch Argere Dich Nicht”).

Alma loved gardening and bird watching. Her yard was filled with her favorite (and flourishing) plantings and featured many well-situated birdbaths and birdhouses. For many years she and Fritz owned a second home on Sanibel Island, Florida where she followed the sandpipers and egrets with the same enthusiasm she had for the cardinals and robins on Long Island.

An avid collector of Christmas ornaments and Hummel figurines, Alma was also a late-developing - albeit very enthusiastic - fan of the New York Yankees.

Her great love for her immediate and extended family, her dedication to gardening and birds, and her thoroughly unselfish manner were continually on display throughout her entire life.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
