Anna Marie Moschitto

Anna Marie Moschitto, 97, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2026, in Hartford, CT. The beloved matriarch of her family, she lived a full and beautiful life and will be remembered for her kind heart, warmth, impeccable sense of style, and wonderfully charismatic personality.

Born in Puglia, Italy, on December 23, 1928, Anna immigrated to the United States in 1930 with her parents, Gaetano and Rosa Cipriani, and her older brother, Joseph. After arriving through Ellis Island, the family settled in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, NY, where her younger sister, Fran, was born a few years later.

Anna graduated from James Madison High School in 1947 and began her career as a telephone operator. Soon afterward, she joined her father at his liquor store, where she met the love of her life, Sebastian Moschitto. Anna and Sebastian married in 1950 and went on to have three children: Fran, Leonard, and Roseanne. In 1956, they moved to Woodbury, Long Island, where Anna happily made her home for the next 68 years.

More than just a devoted mother, Anna was a welcoming presence to everyone in her community. She was always there to support her children, attending their sporting events and musical productions, and serving as a den leader for both Cub Scouts and Brownies. She had a special ability to make everyone feel welcome through her warm smile, infectious laugh, and thoughtful words of encouragement. Anna volunteered with her local Welcome Wagon, helping new families feel at home in the neighborhood. As her children grew older, she brought that same gift for connecting with others to her work with Avon, where she became an award-winning saleswoman and representative. She continued working with the company until she was 95, finding in it not only a rewarding career but also a meaningful way to stay connected to her friends and community.

An incredible mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Anna loved her family deeply. Although her children lived a few hours away in Connecticut, the family remained close and made every effort to get together as often as possible. Anna and Seb would drive to Connecticut for long weekends, holidays, performances, and other important family events, while family members regularly made the trip to Long Island to visit them. After Seb passed away in 2009, family members continued to make the journey to Long Island to visit Anna and often brought her to Connecticut so they could spend more time together.

Anna was blessed by the close relationship she shared with her sister Fran LoPiccolo (Frank) and her family. Living only a few minutes away allowed Anna to remain an important part of their lives, and before moving to Masonicare in Rocky Hill, CT, in 2024, she spent significant time with Fran, her children Victor and Marissa (Greg Sr.), and her grandchildren Greg Jr. and Samantha. They were a constant source of love and support for Anna, and their regular Sunday dinners together became a cherished family tradition.

It cannot go unsaid that Anna was also an incredible cook. Whether she was making spaghetti and meatballs, stuffed artichokes, cardoons, or her famous Sicilienne pizza, food was one of the ways she brought people together and shared her love with others. Ask any employee at the Plainview Trader Joe’s, and they would tell you that Anna was a favorite customer, well known for stopping by daily for her free cup of coffee. Anna also enjoyed attending church and prayer group meetings at Holy Name of Jesus Church, and she rarely missed bingo night.

Anna is survived by her children, Leonard Moschitto (Kristi), and Roseanne Messenger (Gary), grandchildren, Erik Elligers (Nancy), Kyle Elligers (Christi), Sean Elligers, Courtney Elligers, Michael Moschitto, and Alec Moschitto, and great grandchildren, Remy Elligers, Tessa Elligers, and Maren Elligers. She was also a beloved aunt to 20 nieces and nephews from both the Moschitto and Cipriani sides of the family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sebastian, and her daughter, Fran Elligers (Ken).

Anna leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, family traditions, and countless memories that will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held at Beney Funeral Home, 79 Berry Hill Road, Syosset, NY 11791, on August 28, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and again from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A Funeral Mass will take place at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 690 Woodbury Rd, Woodbury, NY 11797, on August 29, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by Entombment at Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum, 2030 Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale, NY 11735, on August 29, 2026, from 11:30 am to 12:15 pm.
