Born on February 9, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York, later moving to Syosset, New York to raise his family, Anthony lived a full and dynamic life marked by hard work, service, and devotion to family.
He is predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Grace Barbera.
Anthony proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His strength, discipline, and leadership during his service reflected the same qualities he carried throughout his life.
Following his military service, Anthony pursued his education at the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service, earning a degree in mortuary science. He went on to serve as a funeral director for many years — a profession that requires compassion, steadiness, and resilience. Later, he worked alongside his father in the milk industry and, over the years, owned and operated several food service businesses. He was never one to shy away from hard work and brought determination and intensity to every endeavor.
Anthony is survived by his children: Anthony Barbera; Jo-Anna Caputo (Peter); and Grace Avigliano (Charles). He was a proud grandfather to Tabatha.
He is also survived by his beloved and devoted partner, Sylvia Torre, and her family: Edward (Michele), and their children, Morgan and Steven; and Steven (Susan), and their children, Christopher, Jonathan, Jamie, and Andrew.
Anthony will be remembered for his strong presence, his sharp wit, his unwavering opinions, and his deep love for his family. He lived life on his own terms, with conviction and courage.
His family takes comfort in the many memories shared and the lasting impact he made on those who knew him.
