

KVETON, MD - Frank W. of Jericho, NY and Longboat Key, FL passed away on July 10th, 2015 following a short illness. Born in New York City on October 21st 1929, to Frank and Mary Kveton (nee Weber) emigrants from Czechoslovakia, Frank grew up in the Yorkville section of Manhattan, attending PS 158 and Stuyvesant High School (class of 1947). He was a graduate of St. John's University and SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, 1954, followed by an internship at Meadowbrook Hospital in East Meadow. Frank was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving as a captain and flight surgeon 1955-1957. Following his discharge he completed a residency in radiology and practiced at Mid Island Hospital, Bethpage, for 41 years, eventually serving as a managing partner of Mid Island Radiology Associates. As a teenager Frank and his family began summering in Bayville, where he met his wife-to-be and love of his life Eleanor. They married in 1953 and raised their three children in Laurel Hollow. Frank was a lifelong member of Sokol NY where he became an accomplished gymnast. He was an AAU men's junior champion in 1947. He was a skilled water skier in his youth, and an avid boater all his life. He served as commodore of Whaler's Cove Yacht Club in Cold Spring Harbor. Upon retiring, Frank and Eleanor spent the winter months in Longboat Key, FL. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Eleanor (nee Kraupner), daughter Susan and her husband Peter Mitchell, daughter Ellen and her husband Alan Rountree, and his son Richard and his partner Anthony Shade. He was the proud and beloved grandfather of Alex and Caroline Mitchell and Kaitlyn Rountree. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Robert Kraupner and wife Elna, and nine nieces and nephews, their spouses and children. He was preceded in death by his cousin Dr. George Bures and wife Jean. The family will receive friends at Beney Funeral Home, Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9. A memorial service will be held Wednesday 10:30am at First Presbyterian Church of Oyster Bay. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sokol of NY, 420 E. 71st Street, NY, NY 10021.
