She was born on April 2, 1938, in the city of New York, to her parents, Anthony and Antoinette DiProperzio.

She pursued her education at SUNY Farmingdale, where she received her degree and went on to work as a Registered Nurse for Central General Hospital. Her in-hospital career started in MedSurg, moved to surgical and medical ICU, and finished in PACU. After retirement from nursing in hospitals, Joanne worked well into her 80s for Northwell Health in outpatient colorectal surgery and cardiology. Excellent nursing care was her professional mission. She was a dedicated patient advocate and a reliable, consistent, and beloved coworker. Her commitment to nursing and her compassionate nature touched the lives of many.

Joanne was a world traveler and adventurous spirit, always up for a good time. She loved New York and spent many happy times with friends and family enjoying Broadway plays and all the city had to offer. Joanne was also an avid reader and could often be found with a good book on the beach, in a park, or in the comfort of her home. She was Yankees fan and, when not at the stadium for a game, was sure to have it on TV.
Joanne resided in Syosset and Woodbury, NY where she was a cherished member of the community. In her younger years, she was an avid tennis player competing and winning in local leagues. She was very athletic and enjoyed competition. Throughout every stage of her life, Joanne made and maintained close friendships. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
