

Hammerman, Margrit A. of Palm Harbor Florida was born to Friedrich and Edith (nee Wohlers) Wetjen in Bremen, West Germany. Margrit emigrated from West Germany in 1956 aboard the MS Berlin to work in her aunt's deli on Onderdonk Ave. in Ridgewood, NY. A cute piano player in a band that she and her friends were listening to caught her eye and she and the love of her life Stuart Hammerman ended up getting married on October 1, 1959. Living in Queens, NY they eventually moved to Long Island where they lived happily until her beloved husband Stuart passed away June 2015 after 55 years of marriage. Margrit moved to Florida August 2021 to the Coral Oaks Assisted Living.
Margrit loved to travel. She would travel to Germany to visit relatives and she and her husband would travel almost yearly to Aruba. She loved animals and had spoiled numerous cats and dogs.
Margrit returned part-time to the workforce in the late 1970s at the Elvee Corporation, making lifelong friends. She continued working part-time, retiring from Pay-o-matic in 2011.
She is survived by her daughter Carol, her husband Brian, grandson Bobby, deceased granddaughter Christina and her great granddaughter Brianna. Her son Steven, his wife Dianne, grandson Dylan his wife Sarah, great grandson Nicholas and granddaughter Kelsey, and Margrit's youngest daughter Diane and her boyfriend Paul. Margrit is also survived by her brother Rainer and stepbrother Ludwig, and was proceeded in death by her brother Fred.
Reposing at Beney Funeral Home of Syosset NY, 79 Berry Hill Rd. Visiting Tuesday August 13, 2024 from 2-4 & 7-9. Interment on Wednesday August 14, 10:30 at North Babylon Cemetery.
