

Mary was born on June 1, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York, to her parents Margaret and John Puttre. She was the only daughter of their five children including John, Paul, George & Vincent.
Mary is survived by her three daughters Joanne Ritchie (Robert), Catherine Buonanno and Christine Daniel (Vincent); her seven grandchildren, Ian (Briar), Ryan and Maggie Ritchie, Peter (Corinne) and Sarah Buonanno, and Sofia and William Daniel, her brothers George (Pat) and Vincent Puttre and her sister in law Tina Puttre.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband Frederick Anthony Palumbo after 57 years of marriage, her siblings John and Paul Puttre, and her beloved cousin Carol (Frank) Trick.
Mary graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from The City University of New York in 1962 and received her Master of Science in Education from Adelphi University. Before having children, Mary was a teacher for the City of New York, and later an English and Social Studies teacher for the Diocese of Rockville Centre at Cure of Ars and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton schools.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed summer vacations in Ogunquit, Maine with her children and grandchildren, and never refused a good cocktail. Mary was a woman of strong intellect, opinions and real fight until the end.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church, 205 Jackson Ave, Syosset, NY 11791, on July 18, 2026, at 9:45 am.
Interment will take place at Cemetery of the Holy Rood, 111 Old Country Road, Westbury, NY 11590, following the Mass.
