With profound love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Mary Pieper, affectionately known as Nana, who departed this world at the age of 84. Mary passed away peacefully , surrounded by her family and friends , leaving behind a legacy of love, strength and compassion.
Born in the south Bronx to Irish immigrants, John and Nora Fitz-Gerald, Mary was the middle child among five siblings. She grew up alongside her sisters Patricia, Eileen, her twin, Noreen and her brother John. Nana's close knit family was a source of joy and support throughout her life and she treasured her many nieces and nephews.
A devout Catholic, Mary's faith guided her throughout her life, shaping her values and instilling in her the importance of kindness and service to others. She dedicated her life to nurturing those around her, first as a school teacher and later in healthcare at a nursing home, where she cared for the elderly with the same love and compassion she showed her family.
A woman of unwavering loyalty and a big heart, Nana always prioritized her family's well-being above all else. She was predeceased by her husband, August Pieper, whom she married in 1967, and her beloved son Erich, who was called home before her. Erich is survived by his loving wife Catherine.
Nana is also survived by her three cherished children, Christian (Meredith) Matthew (Noreen) and Mary Ladd (George). She was the PROUD Nana to ten beautiful grandchildren, Liam (Brittany) Tyler, Aidan, Reilly, Sydney, Kacey, Nora, James, Ryan and Georgie, who all carry forward her spirit and values.
Mary's legacy is one of love, resilience and an unwavering commitment to family and faith. She will be deeply missed by all those lives she touched.
