Born in Brooklyn, NY on September 28, 1941, Phyllis was the cherished daughter of Emanuel and Caroline Lewis. In her early teens, she and her younger brother John moved with their family to Westbury, NY, where she remained until marrying the love of her life in 1962. In 1966, she settled into a brand-new home in Syosset, NY—where she raised her three beloved daughters and created a lifetime of memories over 59 wonderful years.
A devoted and compassionate mother, Phyllis is survived by her daughters: Debra Battista (John) and Laura Phillips (Mike). She was predeceased by her daughter Linda Certonio, whom she loved dearly. As “Nana,” Phyllis radiated pride and joy in her grandchildren: Christina, Megan, Danielle, Caroline, and Michael.
Her career as a receptionist at Ademco and Honeywell was distinguished by her signature grace, radiant smile, and unmistakable sense of humor. Whether welcoming colleagues or chatting with friends, Phyllis brought warmth to every room she entered.
Phyllis embraced life fully. Whether exploring Italy, Bermuda, Colorado, and California or enjoying charming bed and breakfasts and hot air balloon rides, her sense of adventure was infectious. She was the heartbeat of every gathering—where laughter echoed and love flowed freely.
Her passions found beautiful expression in the kitchen during holidays, in the soil of her lovingly tended garden, and in the stories she told over a glass of sangria. She danced to the rhythm of life, often to the sweet sounds of Elvis—her favorite.
To say she will be missed is an understatement. Those fortunate enough to know Phyllis were gifted with her unwavering love, quick wit, and generous spirit. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and friends—whose lives she brightened with every hug, every laugh, and every moment shared.
