Just finished painting my rock ( slate) to leave at your grave tomorrow... . Two years and nineteen days since you were beamed up to heaven, Rocket Richard!  Syosset High School All County First Baseman and home run hitter!  High school baseball will never see the likes of your passion and expertise for this gentlemen sport .  Humble, kind, and encouraging to others later in life.  # 1Yankee Fan.  I see you in my mind's eye throwing baseball after baseball on the roof of Pop Pop's garage to catch it on its descent , over and over again! Many times your golden arm
threw it over the garage to land on Founder's Path.   Your love is felt sooo powerfully little brother.  Gives me the strength we gave each other as little children to move forward in this 
beautiful but complicated world.  You always looked out for me. ( No wonder, not one of your friends asked me to prom...lollol)

Today is one and a half years since you let go of us , two weeks before
Christmas.  I was incorrectly counseled the "first year is the hardest." We still hurt. This hole in my heart will never close. Truly, there is no expiration to grief, the B side to love's A of a 45 rpm single.
A smiley -faced sun decorated the rock I left at home in my crossbody bag.   Did not realize it til Riverhead, the family pit stop for years en route to what Nanny always called God's Country.  Your ever-loving brother-law asked if going back home to get it would be 
okay.  I said no, I brought the baseball bat!  It was not til I kissed my hand and touched your stone to say good by til next First Sunday of the month I broke down as Ricky softly rubbed back.   We will see you sooner, if not sooner.  Love you lots.  You always loved me more.

Our childhood brother sent me these photos.  I sit with you in spirit til sundown tonight.  You also will be remembered by the Sisters of St. Joseph this year in novenas and masses in Sacred Heart Chapel here at their Motherhouse .  I have learned that grief does not have an expire by date.  For you, the sun is out shining to quote Christie  Mc Vie  from Songbird.  I ,  however, will not stop crying.  Love you til

It has been 10 months today when I learned you left us.    Along with palms from Easter Sunday, your photo card with a lighthouse on the its reverse side is  tucked into the frame of the mirror above  my dresser. Every morning, I smile back at you and reread the words you wish to hold  in our hearts.  I keep
our childhood and its happy memories there!  Fearless Four of you, Billy, Dougie , and Tom Boy me meeting up at Lewis Lane field to  play on the swings! You were my 
first best friend.  Still are...

Each Sunday,  Ricky and I head to Benjamin Beach and I feel your presence as we wink back at the light of Fire Island's beacon of hope
and guidance.  You sure are  such with your Yankees ! The team has not only YOU as their heavenly General Manager , but Prayer Warrior, rooting them on from up above!  I still cannot believe you are gone..I always thought and think I'll see you again. I am discovering there is no expiration date to grief and loss.

I miss you ,Richard , and love you so very much.

It is now four months , twelve days,  
eleven hours and  forty five  minutes since we said good bye at your grave .  We visited a week later , just the two of us, for a quieter time to be with you. Left a rock following  Jewish tradition. (No, I have not converted--yet!) I miss you, as I have all these years but hear you in my head .You remain in my broken heart.  Love you sooo much.  

We'll be seeing you soon and throughout the summer.
REST IN PEACE with your loving smile, dear brother ....assured my Bodyguard and I  are looking out for my sister and her/  your children.

Dear Marschean Family,

There are no words to express how sad we felt to hear of our friend Richard's passing, so fast, so young.

During his time in Banco Provincia, Rich was a good and fair leader but most of all, he was a wonderful soul.   We delighted every day with his company and with his sincere friendship and good humor.  We'll always have fond memories of him.

In his honor, we have the pleasure of sending a contribution to his two favorite charities, Toys for Tots  Foundation and  Island Harvest.

Don’t know where to start… Rich and Carolyn, u r our dearest snd closest friends! We luv u ! So many special, wonderful memories we will cherish,  one that comes to mind is our trip to Virginia when our kids were young and all they worried about was how the Easter Bunny was going to know where they were in a hotel room..LOL!  Rich, u r a special, kind soul! So glad we crossed paths! Will never forget our times together! Many more good times to share with Carolyn, Nicole and Richie. Words cannot begin to describe how saddened I am. You have always had an amazing ability to walk into a room and suddenly find the one person who felt slightly out of place and make them feel welcome, comfortable and loved. I’ve watched you do this for almost 40 years. You have a gift. It’s called the gift of truly caring about getting to know people. You created and surrounded yourself with the most amazing, loving family - but you also have connected to everyone else you crossed paths with as if they were family. I know you will continue to watch over our family every day, but also know you will watch over everyone fortunate enough to have met you, because that’s just who you are…an absolutely amazing person. Throughout my adult life and teenage years, Richard was a terrific friend. 

In good times, Richard was fun. In challenging times, Richard provided perspective and support.  Richard married the love of his life after dating Carolyn since high school. Together,  they created a wonderful family.  

When with Richard and Carolyn,  they radiated love. As people with Long Island roots, they enjoyed the beach and I treasure our days together in the sun.  Of course, Richard’s joy in playing and watching baseball was infectious. To watch Rich play or listen to his insights about a pro game was an education. 

Condolences to the Family and may Richard’s blessed memory bring comfort in time. 


I had the pleasure of working with Rich for many years in finance. We became good friends and always enjoyed talking sports and family. I am going to miss those phone calls and text. RIP Big Rich going to miss you. 😢


I was a classmate of Rich's at Syosset High School.

Rich was so much fun to talk to.  He was kind, always friendly and an excellent athlete.  He was a great baseball player.

Richard and I were college roommates and remained in touch over the years.  We always made each other laugh and always knew he was a  just good guy to have on your side. I will treasure the memories. Already miss you.


About a year and a half ago Rich called me out of the blue. I thought he was calling to talk about our next annual Street hockey game but after about 10 minutes of conversation I realized he was just calling to touch base and say hello. We ended up speaking for over an hour, reminiscing about Syosset Pool, all the guys and girls who worked there and of course Syosset HS. I distinctly remember Rich telling me how blessed he felt to have met and been married to Carolyn all of these years, still loving her as much as ever. His loss is a big one, I will remember Rich as a jovial, funny guy with a big presence and a lot of heart. May his memory be blessed.
