He was born on June 6, 1937. He was the son of Oscar and Dorothy Berglund. Bob was the cherished husband of 57 years of his loving wife Marilyn (Cornell) and the proud father of three sons, Donald (Madeleine), James, and Brian (Beth) who were the center of his world. He was also a devoted grandfather to eight grandchildren, Alexis, Luke, Ryan, Justin, Erika, Patrick and Michael, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. They truly made his life a happier one. He was preceded in death by his brother Bruce. Family meant everything to Bob, and he treasured time spent together, whether at home or on the road traveling. His favorite highlight was celebrating his 80th birthday with the entire family on a cruise to Bermuda.
A proud veteran, Bob served his country in the United States Air Force. He began his career as a butcher. Later, he found a second calling as a school bus driver, a job he truly loved. He took great pride in safely transporting children each day and enjoyed the relationships he built with students and families over the years.
In his free time, Bob embraced life fully. He loved to travel, especially cruising, and looked forward to each new adventure. He was an avid NASCAR fan and rarely missed a race and cherished the Sundays the family would gather together and he’d start the race with an emphatic “Boogety, boogety, lets go racing boys!” He also passionately supported his favorite teams, the New York Yankees and the New York Islanders, cheering them on through every season.
Bob Berglund will be remembered for his kindness, reliability, and quiet strength, as well as for the love he gave to his family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
