Burggraf, Robert A of Dix Hills, New York, entered eternal life on November 7, 2021 at age 92. Beloved husband of the late Catherine Mae Sullivan Burggraf and Sally Altman Burggraf. Loving father of the late Gregory Joseph Burggraf and George Christopher Altman. Dear brother of the late Richard and Thomas Burggraf.
Bob is survived by his dear son, Andrew (Lisa) Burggraf, daughter Peggy (Dennis) Mahon, daughter in law Katherine Burggraf and loving grandchildren, Sara and Luke Burggraf, Emily Mahon and Ellaina Burggraf.
He graduated from Bishop Laughlin High School and Queens College, where he was a member of the Newman Club, Pipe and Bowl fraternity and Varsity Basketball team. He went on to Officer’s Training School and became an Executive Officer in the US Navy aboard the USS Newport News. Bob was Chairman of the Mathematics department at Great Neck North High School and later taught math at Baruch College.
Upon settling in Syosset in 1957, Bob and Cathy were enthusiastic participants in Parish community life at St. Edward’s, actively involved with local and national workshops and mission vacations organized through the Christian Family Movement (CFM).
Bob and Sally continued this spirited action cofounding CANA II, a group for couples entering second marriages and beginning new blended families.
Bob and Sally were both designated as extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist for over 35 years.
Bob’s kindness, love, support, bad jokes, and heartfelt and witty mealtime prayers will be forever missed. God bless you.
