

Amos Tyler, Jr. 79, passed away Wednesday at Veterans Hospital surrounded by his loving family members. He was born on October 6, 1931 to the late Amos Tyler, Sr. and Alice Marie Holman-Tyler. Amos was a life resident of Syracuse and attended Syracuse Public Schools. He was employed by Crucible Steel for 34 years where he became the first Black Foreman. He was also a US Army Veteran deployed as a Paratrooper. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 1642 and served as a commander during his service.
Amos is survived by his three sons, Carlton Tyler, Aaron (Theresa) Tyler and Arnold Tyler; godson, Wilbur Hill; five daughter, Patricia Adams, Sharon (Nate) Sanders, Jacqueline Edwards, Bridget Martin and Sherry Mitchell all of Syracuse, NY along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, 1 p.m. at FARONE & SON FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in Veterans Cemetery. Two hours of visitation will be held prior to the funeral services from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home, 1500 Park Street.
