

Charles D. Giles, 80, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday at his home with his family by his side. Born in Georgetown, SC, he lived most of his life in Syracuse. Charles retired from Allied Chemical. Predeceased by his parents and his stepmother; his son, James “Yankee” (Darphine) Giles; and siblings, Eulis (Edith) Giles and Ora Mae (Vernal) Lashley.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 56 years, Ethel Giles; five sons, Charles “Curly” (Sadie) Canteen, John (Christal), Dwight (Joyce), Kevin, and Leroy (Theresa) Giles; six daughters, Mary, Lillie Ann, Ora Dale, Cynthia, Karen, and Linda Giles; 29 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; brother, Tom (Flossie) Giles; sisters, Bertha Golden and Pearl (Javan) Lance; sisters-in-law, Rosa Lee White and Carrie M. Canteen; brother-in-law, Lic. Vernal Lashley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Calling hours: Tuesday 10 a.m. to Noon with funeral services to follow at Noon at FARONE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Park Street, Syracuse. Burial will follow in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
