

Josephine (Jo Kucharski) Vassenelli, at the age of 89 died on August 22, 2010. Born in Rochester, NY she lived most of her life in Syracuse. She graduated in 1939 from Vocational High School. Jo retired in 1982 after many years with Wells & Coverly Boys Shop. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Pompei Church. Jo belonged to Pompei and Holy Trinity seniors clubs. She loved bowling, swimming and was an avid Yankees baseball fan since visiting Yankee stadium in 1943. She was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas in 1991, her son, Joseph in 1993, three brothers, John, Joseph and Frank Kucharski and a sister, Anne Sturick.
Surviving is a son, John (Mary Beth) of Syracuse, two daughters, Marie (Joe) Houser of Cicero and Christine DeAmbra (Roger Smith, companion) of Constantia; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Sue (Myron) Bajish of Westvale and Stella Walker of Camillus; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 9:15 a.m. at Farone & Son Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Pompei/St Peter Church. Burial will follow in St. Johns Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, 1500 Park St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, PO BOX, 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
