To Lee's Family
I have lived across the street from Lee for the past 13 years and am very saddened by his death.  He was a very good neighbor.  When he worked at the food pantries he would bring home the leftover baked goods for some of us in the neighborhood. When my father was no longer driving he would on occassion take him out for breakfast. After his 5:00 p.m. walk with Andy he would stop at my house when I got home from work when I was putting my dog out and she and Andy would play together. It is sad to look out and no longer see them walking together - man and his best friend.  Please give Andy a hug and kiss from Marilyn and Kiona (his playmate). I will not be able to make the services today, but I extend my deepest sympathies to your family.

My parents, the Romeo family, lived next door to the Masello's on Alvord Street for many years. I hadn't seen Leon for a long time, until recently. He was just as nice as I remembered him back from when I was just a child on Alvord Street. He looked very happy and talked about his little dog Andy, whom he was crazy about.  I am sorry to hear that Leon has passed on. My husband and I send our deepest condolences to the family.

                                                OUR FATHER

               OUR FATHER, LEON MASELLO, WAS BORN ON 15TH APRIL 1927 TO ITALIAN IMMIGRANTS, ANGELO AND AGNES MASELLO. OUR FATHER WAS BROUGHT UP ON THE NORTHSIDE OF SYRACUSE,  SURVIVED THE GREAT DEPRESSION, THE TRAGIC LOSS OF HIS TEENAGE BROTHER, THE SHORT LIFE OF AN INFANT SISTER AND THE LOSS OF HIS ADULT  SISTER JUST SEVEN MONTHS AGO. OUR FATHER WORKED HARD AS A TEENAGER WORKING THE FARM OR DELIVERING NEWSPAPERS. HE ATTENDED AND GRADUATED FROM CATHOLIC SCHOOL. OUR FATHER SERVED IN THE MILITARY AS AN AIRPLANE MECHANIC AND TAIL GUNNER IN WORLD WAR II. DAD WAS PROUD TO SERVE HIS COUNTRY AND TOLD US MANY STORIES OF THE WAR. DAD LOVED PLANES SO MUCH THAT HE ENROLLED IN FLIGHT SCHOOL AND OBTAINED HIS FLYING LICENSE. OUR FATHER LIKED WORKING WITH HIS HANDS, TICKERING WITH ELECTRONICS AND WOOD. DAD EVEN WAS AN INVENTOR AND HAD A PATENT FOR A SHAVER HOLDER.
                OUR FATHER MARRIED, HAD FOUR CHILDREN AND SETTLED ON THE NORTHSIDE. HE WORKED HARD SUPPORTING HIS FAMILY, MAKING SURE HIS WIFE DID NOT HAVE TO WORK, WHICH MEANT WORKING TWO JOBS. OUR FATHER WAS DEVOTED TO THE CATHOLIC FAITH MAKING SURE HIS KIDS WOULD FOLLOW BY HIS EXAMPLE AND FEAR OF GOD. OUR FATHER TAUGHT US HOW TO RESPECT, LOVE, WORK HARD AND BE A PROVIDER AND ROLE MODEL TO THE FAMILY.OUR FATHER REMINDED US ABOUT MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THIS WORLD. DAD WAS PROUD OF HIS CHILDREN AND SUPPORTIVE OF WHATEVER OUR CAREER WAS AND WAS ALWAYS THERE TO GIVE US AN ENCOURAGING WORD OR ADVICE. DAD SHOWED US HOW TO RELAX BY TAKING US VACATIONING AND FISHING EVERY SUMMER. HE WANTED US TO ENJOY OUR CHILDHOOD MORE THAN HE DID. WE WERE ALLOWED TO BE KIDS ENJOYING OUR YOUTH. DAD MADE SURE WE HAD A BIT MORE THAN HE HAD GROWING UP BUT ALWAYS REMINDED US ABOUT THE VALUE OF LIVING WITHIN OUR MEANS. OUR FATHER REMINDED US HOW GOOD WE HAD IT, ESPECIALLY SINCE HE WENT THROUGH THE GREAT DEPRESSION. HE TAUGHT US TO BE THANKFUL ALWAYS AND NEVER TO LOOK DOWN ON PEOPLE, TO BE HUMBLE.  OUR FATHERS SMILE WAS VERY COMFORTING, ASSURING US OF HOW MUCH HE LOVED US AND HIS ENJOYMENT AS A PARENT. DAD HAS SHOWN US THE CONSEQUENCES OF BAD CHOICES AND THE IMPORTANCE OF FORGIVENESS. OUR FATHER WAS THERE WHEN WE NEEDED HIM, ANY TIME OF THE DAY OR NIGHT. DAD ENJOYED HELPING HIS CHILDREN AND OTHERS.                  
                OUR FATHER HAS GRANDCHILDREN, GREATGRANDCHILDREN THAT HE LOVES EQUALLY AND UNCONDITIONALLY. DAD HAD A DOG “ANDY” WHO WAS MORE THAN A PET.  HE WAS DADS BEST FRIEND.  HE KEPT DAD VERY BUSY. OUR FATHER ENJOYED LIFE AND WAS FULL OF HEALTH AND VIGOR AT THE YOUNG AGE OF 83. OUR FATHER WAS TAKEN FROM US SWIFTLY AND UNEXPECTANTLY GIVING US QUESTIONS THAT ONLY GOD CAN ANSWER.  OUR FATHER HAS HANDED THE BATON DOWN TO US, HIS CHILDREN AS IT IS OUR TURN TO RUN THE RELAY OF LIFE. WE CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF OUR FATHER, LEON MASELLO, WHO WE WILL MISS VERY DEARLY.
