Linda Marie Perla, 61, of Syracuse, passed away Monday at Crouse Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the Co-Owner & Operator of Professional Management. Linda was a long-time member and strong supporter of the Syracuse Peace Council. In the 1970’s and 80’s she was an SPC activist in struggles against nuclear power and US support of repressive regimes in Latin America. Linda was a creative member of the Peace Calendar committee from 1983 – 1994 and in 1995 she wrote a moving and humorous article on the 25 year history of the Peace Calendar. In 1982 Linda co-founded the Syracuse Cultural Workers, a national publisher of peace and justice products. Continuing her strong commitment to progressive work in the CNY community, Linda was a founding board member of ArtRage Gallery in the Hawley-Green neighborhood of Syracuse in 2008. Linda combined her commitment to community and her love of singing by joining the Syracuse Community Choir. She was a part of the choir’s first concert in 1985 and remained involved for over 5 years. In all her progressive work Linda brought a profound sense of justice, a subtle humor, much-needed organization and a people-oriented “style.” Linda was an active member of Plymouth Congregational Church. She sang in the choir and served on both the Vitality and Welcome Teams. Her viewpoints and opinions were shared constructively, and were appreciated by church leadership. Linda was a friend to many across all generations in the congregation, and she will be dearly missed.
Predeceased by her father, Anthony Vincent Perla in 1998.
